My thought after watching Danganronpa

I just finished watching the first season of Danganronpa. I would only give this anime 3/5 stars. Why? Let me explain it further.

Danganronpa is a mystery - psychological anime. That's what came as my conclusion after watching the entire first series. The thought of it excites me so much. Mystery and psychology as one genre? How can I ask for more? The story is about 15 students who attend Hope's Peak Academy. They were invited as special students from the headmaster. Surprisingly, the headmaster is no other than just a stuffed toy; a bear. A bear with white and black colour. To graduate, all of them have to kill each other. The one last standing is said to be the survivor of the school. But, who knows what lies behind the truth of the school?

The pop-art version of Naegi Makoto | Doc. Danganronpa Wiki

The main character is Naegi Makoto. My first impression of Naegi is I don't like him. As the main character of such mystery anime, a character like Naegi is not worth to be the main character. He's using too much emotion. Well, he can indeed be smart sometimes if someone provides him information. But... I don't like how Naegi's title is Super Duper High School Hope. Ew, what is that? Naegi really is not worth it to be the main character of a mystery anime. That's why I became less enthusiast with the anime. I remember it clearly that Naegi is using all his "naive sense" to help his old friend. Sayaka... isn't it?

But yesterday, I don't know what came into me. I want to continue watching Danganronpa, again. I think I can still tolerate the mystery and problem solving, so I just have to endure Naegi's character, right? Alright, so I did what thought.

The mystery indeed is very interesting. It's rare to find a story with a group of people trying to solve cases together. Usually, the group will only depend on one person as the genius (or it can be up to 5 people, as far as I know), but it really is a group. Remember, there are supposed to be 15 people, right? That's what interesting thing comes.

With their own personality and ability, together they try to solve the truth behind every mysteries. There are several cases that I can conclude before the episode end (that's mean, it wasn't as hard as I thought), but alright, the entire cases are interesting. I don't have any favourite character obviously, but I like the mysteries.

It's just... I'm a little bit disappointed too with Kirigiri. She's a Super Duper High School Detective, right? Why doesn't she act like a real detective, then? I mean, I know there's something wrong with her, but seriously? Kirigiri, why? Ok, that title so far is a spoiler itself.

At first, I thought Togami, Kirigiri, and Celestia are the calmest people out of them, but turns out, no one is as calm as I thought. A little bit disappointed here. Especially to Togami. Huh, he's actually an emotional person? Disappointing. And by the way, I dislike his bossy attitude. Who do you think you are? You're just an heir, hey.

Celestia Ludenberg pop-art version

Oh, right! It's a little bit disappointing too that I can't see Celestia's gambling ability. All I see is just how she properly plan her murder. Ah, and yes, she's dead after killing people.

And! The ending! Ugh, how disappointing. I don't like the ending at all. Way too boring (I can relate with Enoshima, hehe). So, the conclusion is everyone is being desperate with their life, and then Naegi as the Super Duper High School Hope turns their despair into hope? What the freaking hell is that? Boring. Man... where's the mystery? This is the first time I dislike a mystery anime but chose to watch until the end because I want to know it. Huh, I don't think to watch the second episode is that worth.

But alright, thanks for the anime. I enjoyed the problem solving along the way, anyway. Pretty interesting. Pst! I just know that the pop-art version of Togami Byakuya doesn't wear eyeglasses.
